bread for all
This initiative will run for one year and a different institution will be selected every month to which 200 kg of bread will be delivered, making a total of 2.2 tonnes of bread donated at the end of the year to 12 different institutions.
Besides the community service carried out four days/week, with which it delivers about 150 home-cooked meals a day, prepared by its 400 volunteers, the Porto branch of CASA also has three solidarity restaurants and supports families in difficulty in the Porto region with groceries.
The 3 CASA solidarity restaurants serve around 600 meals per evening, and around 100 families receive fortnightly food baskets that represent 70% of each household's monthly food expenses.
The number of people requesting help after the pandemic increased sharply, and the number of homeless people requesting help from CASA has tripled since the pandemic began.
In addition to food aid, CASA also provides support with more bureaucratic tasks such as renewing identity cards, going to the bank, etc.
““CASA aims to be a home for those who have nothing. We intend to bring comfort, affection, besides the obvious which is food. Obviously, our main job is to bring meals to those who have nothing, but there is a very important part of our work that is company, a familiar face, sometimes bringing a birthday cake to someone on their birthday, little treats that our users wouldn't have otherwise.” says Ana Salão, Director of Services and Coordinator of CASA.
If you would like to become a volunteer at CASA, you may contact the institution through the email below, or through a private message on Facebook.
